On Friday, June 2, flag football history was made on the Plateau, when the RC Bobcats played the first ever all-girls high school flag football match in Turkey against the St. Benoit Seagulls, with RC winning 31-6. The RC team had spent the previous three years playing against university teams with girls who were taller, faster and stronger. They were thrilled to finally able to compete with another high school team.
The team started quickly with a long run by Işıl Ercan and follow-up touchdown catch by Eylül Horozoğlu from quarterback İrem Kuruner, all Lise 10 students. The Bobcats followed it up with a nifty touchdown by Zeynep Soydan L9 on a pass from Kuruner. Ece Pınar Özer L10 kept the defense strong in the second half with a huge tackle and interception.
The event was enhanced with classic marching band music and a half-time football passing contest. The positive attitude of both teams was a good start to what should be a long rivalry.
