RC Commemorates Çanakkale Day


Çanakkale Victory and Martyrs’ Day was commemorated with a ceremony in Suna Kıraç Hall on Friday, March 16.

The ceremony, planned by the National Days Committee to commemorate the Çanakkale Victory of March 18 and the war casualties, opened with the national anthem, followed by speeches by History teacher Önder Kaya and English teacher Cyrus Carter. Mehmet Göral and Colin Edmonds performed a beautiful selection of folk songs and songs in various languages that convey the melancholy of the Çanakkale wars, accompanied by the school’s student orchestra conducted by their teachers Deniz Baysal and Koray Demirkapı. Students Serra and Umut told the story of İsmail Hakkı Bey, the captain of the minelayer ship Nusret, one of the unsung heroes of the war; Zeynep recited Bülent Ecevit’s "Çanakkale" poem. The Dance Club students staged a moving performance choreographed by Mercan Selçuk. 

The ceremony was closed by students Selin and Kaan, who were the presenters for the entire program.
